The winners of the Photo Challenge
as part of the Online Photo Days 2021
The Photo Challenge of the Online Photo Days was all about the three photographic themes spring, long exposure and shadow play.
You have become photographically active during this time or have picked out existing pictures to take a closer look at them again. The decision was not easy for our jury, there were special and creative submissions and we tried to pick out the best. These are the winners of our challenge!
Here are the respective tasks once again:
Tasks:
Go ahead and fulfill the following photographic tasks. The pictures do not necessarily have to be taken now (i.e. you can also send in existing pictures), but try to take it as an incentive to become photographically active now.
1. Shadow plays
Where there is light, there is shadow. Skilfully stage the shadow and show us how you deal with the shadow play!
2. Long exposure
A classic that should never be missed! Get creative and impress us with a great shot using a long exposure.
3. Spring
The photo season begins! It's the time of year that brings a breath of fresh air. Show us how motivating and beautiful spring can be. Be creative and show us your view of this time of year!

Gregor Marstaller about his picture:
"I took the photo at the "Old Cemetery" in Freiburg. I was there to capture the atmosphere and this tulip in the middle of the meadow was the only flower in bloom for miles around at the time. So I had to pay it a quick visit with my Nikon Z7 (and the Nikor 50mm 1.4). The flower was so delighted that it immediately agreed to my TFP contract and began to glow beautifully. You can see the result here in the picture. I am an actor and theater teacher from Freiburg in Breisgau. I got into photography as a coronavirus side effect. Suddenly there was time and my "old" camera called out "Finally use me again!". That's how it started and now I'm busy doing it. Mostly, however, I take portraits of actors.

Winning image: Long exposure
The picture was taken at Diamond Beach in Iceland. It is known for its black sand and the sometimes large chunks of ice that break off from the nearby glacier and are washed up again by the waves. I actually wanted to photograph the beach at sunset, but low-hanging clouds prevented this plan. Instead, a cool atmosphere developed, which suited the coldness of this place very well. After some searching, I found this motif, and I was particularly fascinated by the heart-shaped recess in the middle of the chunk of ice. This recess also gave the picture the name "Heart of Ice". I set up my tripod and, as if by magic, the sea calmed down and the waves flattened so that the water only just reached the chunk of ice. It was the perfect moment to press the shutter button and you can see the first exposure of this scene

The background of the picture:
"I work full-time in the advertising industry as a camera assistant and use photography to live out my creativity without restrictions. The picture was taken during a test shoot in the studio in Munich with the model Vivi. We photographed a total of 5 different looks that day to refresh her sedcard and my portfolio. I played a lot with lighting and tried out different flash modifiers. To make the studio atmosphere more interesting, I mainly worked with shadow and light patterns. In the end, I liked this intimate portrait the best from the series."
