Fast Autofocus
Canon's latest ring-shaped Ultrasonic Motor (USM), controlled by a powerful CPU unit according to an improved AF algorithm, focuses extremely quickly and whisper quietly. This latest generation of USM ring motors precisely guides the optical design to the focus point without stalling, with electronically controlled focusing in P, Tv, Av and M program modes that can be adopted at any time by manual intervention.

Portrait photography
A nearly circular iris diaphragm contributes to aesthetically pleasing reproduction in the out-of-focus area (bokeh effect) when working with selective focus, making the new EF 50 mm f/1.2 L an ideal portrait and studio lens. The shallow depth of field at open aperture allows precise focus on the eyes in portrait close-ups, while the rear eyelids are already immersed in the blur. The closest focusing distance is 45 centimeters.

Aspherical Lens Element
To correct spherical aberration in conventional large aperture lenses and smooth imaging performance throughout the field of view, a large aspherical lens element is included in the optical assembly of eight lens elements in six groups. Thanks to the aspherical lens element, high sharpness and contrast are ensured over the entire focal length range and at large apertures.

Super Spectra Coating
In addition to optimized lens shaping to reduce reflections and the use of non-reflective material inside the lens body, the EF 50 mm f/1.2L USM employs Canon's patented Super Spectra lens coating. These measures effectively suppress ghosting and fogging effects that can increase with digital cameras due to unwanted reflection from the sensor. By improving light transmission, the coating reduces reflections from the surfaces of the lens elements, enabling sharp, distortion-free imaging with natural, neutral color reproduction.

Supports E-TTL II flash
The EF 50mm f/1.2L USM transmits distance data to the E-TTL II flash system on all current EOS digital SLR cameras. When used in conjunction with Canon's EX Speedlite flash units, this results in more accurate metering when using flash units.

L-Series Lenses
The L-series is Canon's flagship line of professional lenses: an attractive combination of outstanding imaging performance and ease of use. Since L-series lenses are also particularly well protected against the ingress of dust and moisture, they are in no way inferior to the camera bodies of the EOS-1 series in this respect either. Naturally, only lead-free glass elements are used in this Lens. The matching lens hood and a lens bag are included.
