Boya BY-BM3032 video camera directional microphone

The Boya BY-BM3032 is a directional microphone for video cameras that is ideal for general sound recording. The BY-BM3032 is compatible with DSLR cameras, camcorders and audio recorders. For high reliability, this directional microphone is made of high-quality plastic and has an integrated shock absorber. This prevents unnecessary vibrations and background noise.

Three sound levels are available during recording: +20dB, 0dB and -10dB. +20dB amplifies softer sounds; -10dB, on the other hand, makes loud sounds less likely to be over-amplified. In addition, this directional microphone has a low-pass filter that filters out low-frequency sounds. The BY-BM3032 comes with a pop cap that minimizes background noise such as wind noise. This makes it possible to use this directional microphone in various situations.

Using the BY-BM3032

To use the microphone, two AA batteries (not supplied) must be inserted. This allows the microphone to be used for up to 30 hours. It is attached to the camera via the 1/4" threaded connection or the hotshoe. The camera can be connected to the microphone using the 3.5 mm output cable supplied.

By briefly pressing the left button, the bass filter can be set to 0Hz, 75Hz and 150Hz. The high frequencies can also be increased by 5dB by pressing the same button for a long time. The LED lights up continuously. If this function is to be switched off, the button must be pressed and held again.

As with the low-cut filter, the volume can be set to three different levels: -10dB, 0db and +20dB. This can be set using the button on the right-hand side. Pressing and holding this button lowers the level by 10dB.

Automatic switch-on and switch-off function

When the power button is pressed, the microphone is muted. Pressing it again for three seconds switches the automatic on/off function on and off. When this function is switched on, the LED flashes briefly three times. When the function is switched off, it only flashes once. This function can be used if the microphone is always connected to a camera. This eliminates the need to switch on the microphone separately from the camera.
