Gray filters - creative through less light
Gray filters, also known as ND (neutral density) filters or neutral density filters, block the entire visible spectrum evenly and thus lead to a reduction in light without affecting colors and contrast. Since they simultaneously block UV radiation, the additional use of a UV blocking filter is unnecessary. A gray filter must also often be used to reduce the depth of field - wide open aperture. However, the strength of the effect in this application depends on the focal length of the Lens. Furthermore, they permit "normal" time and aperture values if the film speed is too high for the prevailing brightness.

B+W Gray Filter 102
This B+W gray filter (log. density 0.6), which reduces light by two f-stops, is the most popular in the photographic field for good reason.
It offers a lot, for example f/4 instead of f/8 for selective sharpness instead of extended depth of field or 1/15 s instead of 1/60 s for a flowing instead of frozen waterfall, but it still has very good color neutrality and costs less than the even denser gray filters. We recommend it as basic equipment.
